League Report: Longford Town 2 - 3 Treaty United

Treaty United killed off Longford Town’s slim play-off hopes with a thrilling 3-2 victory.

The Shannonsiders also kept their unlikely hopes alive in doing so – but they require a miracle to make the top-five.

On 41 points, Treaty are five points behind Athlone Town with just three games left to play.

They still have to play Finn Harps, Waterford and Galway United in their remaining fixtures.

But they can take confidence from their win away to Longford – their second of the season at Bishopsgate.

Stephen Henderson’s are now eighth and eight points behind Athlone with three to play.

In a drab first-half beset by wet conditions, neither side were able to break the deadlock.

Treaty however found the lead with a Conor Barry strike in the 55th minute.

That lead did not last long although as Dylan Hand blasted home on the hour mark after Treaty failed to clear their defensive lines.

Treaty although retook the lead just two minutes later through former Athlone Town forward Adam Lennon.

And just six minutes later they then made it 3-1 via Barry’s second.

Longford threatened a fightback late on when Derek Daly’s free-kick found the net in the 87th minute.

And they thought they levelled in injury time when Jordan Adeyemo found space in the penalty area – but his effort was superbly saved by Corey Chambers as Treaty held out.
