Two sides with unbeaten records clash this evening in the Showgrounds, when Dundalk visit Sligo Rovers this Easter Monday evening. (kick off 7.45 pm)
Paul Cook will have to plan without the services of his two starting wing-backs, Iarfhlaith Davoren and Paul Whelan, as Davoren picked up an injury during his sides 2-2 draw with Drogheda on Friday night while Whelan has missed the Bit O'Red's last three encounters due to a quad problem. Cook however will be boosted by the return of influential centre-back Gavin Peers to the Rovers' defence after he served his one game suspension.
At the time of writing, Dundalk had not published their team news for tonight's game, but Tiarnán Mulvenna (knee) and Alan Cawley (cheekbone) were out for Dundalk's postponed clash with Galway last Friday, and will be doubtful to feature for this game. They also have no suspensions due to be served.
Last time Dundalk took to the pitch, they played out a scoreless draw with St. Patrick's Athletic in a game that was far from boring, however Neale Fenn feels that Dundalk are improving with each game that the new bunch of players play together.
“It takes time with a new team; it takes games to get to know each other,” Fenn told the official club website. “We’re building on things, getting to know each other’s games and we’re getting better. I think anyone would say that we’ve got a good return from the opening four games. And you’ve got to pick up points against teams like Sligo if you’ve got any ambition to finish as high as you can in the league and to qualify for Europe. It’s an important game for us. The Showgrounds is always a difficult place to go. It will take a lot of hard work and digging in to get a result.”
