First Division promotion hunters Waterford have swooped in for Derik Osede.

Osede is a 30-year-old centre-back and will join the Blues pending international clearance.

Osede came through the ranks at Real Madrid before playing for the club’s C and Castilla teams, making over 100 appearances before a move to Bolton Wanderers.

The experienced 30-year-old centre back played 65 times in the Championship and League 1 for Bolton before returning to Spain.

The Madrid-born defender has represented the Spanish national team at every level from under-16s to under-21 level.

He was also part of Spain’s under-19 side that won the 2012 European Championships.

“I’m very happy to sign for Waterford,” he said. “I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve the goals this season.

“I’m a technical, pacey defender when I’m on the pitch and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“It’s been good since I arrived and I can’t wait to get on the pitch now and make my debut for the club.”
