In an exhilarating season opener at St James' Park, Newcastle United showcased their intent with a commanding 5-1 win over Aston Villa.

Alexander Isak, the forward who netted twice for the Magpies, opened up about the team's impressive performance and his standout moments in the match.

Speaking to NUFC TV, Isak shared the squad's determination from the get-go, saying, "We were ready from the first second. Scored an early goal, so yeah, it gave us a good start."

While acknowledging the importance of the team's immediate response to Villa's equalising strike, he emphasized, "They can use the momentum or we can take the momentum back which is what we did, which is strong from our side."

Recounting his goals, Isak described his first as a testament to positioning and teamwork, crediting Sven Botman for the assist.

"I wasn’t in a good position, but Sven did great to get the ball to me," he said.

For his second, a more audacious effort, he revealed, "It was a bit more of a cheeky one. Calm, collected and chipped it."

Beyond his own efforts, Isak expressed the euphoria of scoring in front of the passionate Newcastle supporters, saying, "It’s always a bit special."

Newcastle's goal tally also featured strikes from debutants Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes, as well as a goal from Callum Wilson, who continued his tradition of finding the net on opening weekends.

Stressing the importance of a strong beginning, Isak noted, "A good start is what you want. It’s a long season, so we just got to look at the next game."

Looking ahead, Isak is optimistic about their next challenge, a formidable fixture against champions Manchester City.

He expressed, "Personally, I prefer to play the strong teams early. You know you got to play them anyway, so it is good for us to play them next week."
