Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen has announced the signing of Serbian defender Slobodan Rubežić from FK Novi Pazar.

The 6ft 4-inch centre-back joins the Dons for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-year contract with an option to extend for an additional year.

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, "Slobodan is a good old-fashioned defender, exactly what we need to bolster our defensive options".

The Serbian defender, who was a regular starter at FK Novi Pazar, started his professional career at SuperLiga club FK Čukarički, following his development at the FK Vojvodina youth academy.

He moved to Novi Pazar in 2019 and played a role in the team's promotion to the top flight during a Covid-19 impacted season.

Despite injuries limiting his 2020/2021 season, Rubežić managed to find his form again in the 2021/2022 season, which included a loan at FC Arda Kardzhali in the Bulgarian top-flight.

He was a regular part of the Novi Pazar defence in the 2022/2023 season, starting 37 of their 41 matches.

On his move to Aberdeen, Rubežić expressed his excitement, stating: “I am very happy to have signed for such a big club and to now be playing in a country that loves football. I will do my talking on the field and will give everything I have for the team."
