French second-tier outfit EA Guingamp have completed a deal to sign Ayman Ben Mohamed ahead of the upcoming season.

The Ligue 2 side came sixth last season and missed out on promotion back to the top-flight in doing so.

But they will be hoping that new recruit Ben Mohamed can help them restore them to the previous heights.

Guingamp have won the Coupe De France twice - French Cup - in 2009 and 2014 having come from a town of just 7,000 inhabitants.

They also spent 13 years in Ligue 1 in their history, although they have not appeared there since the 2018/2019 season after being relegated.

Tunisian international Ben Mohamed, 28, began his League of Ireland career with UCD during the 2012 campaign at the Belfield Bowl.

And while he was playing his trade in Dublin 4 he had to wait until the 2014 season before he made his senior debut for the Students.

But it was during that campaign where he caught the eye – despite a knee injury – and went on to make 17 appearances for UCD.

From there he went on to play for Longford Town and made 28 appearances for the Red and Black.

He scored twice as the then Tony Cousins managed side finished sixth and reached the FAI Cup semi-final during the 2015 season.

Ben Mohamed joined Bohemians at the end of that season and it was during his time there when he made his international debut for Tunisia.

He has played 14 times for his country since then.

Making 17 league appearances, he scored twice with those goals coming wins over Bray Wanderers and former club Longford Town.

But after receiving a surprise call-up to the Tunisian national senior team for their match against Botswana in May, Ben Mohamed then moved to the country to join club side Esperance Sportive de Tunis in August.

While there he won two CAF Champions League’s, three Tunisian league titles and the Tunisian Super Cup. Ben Mohamed also lifted the Arab Club Championship in 2017.

He left them in 2019 to join Le Havre in France before then going on loan to Turkish outfit Denizlispor in 2021 for a brief spell.

Now playing as a defender and midfielder, Ben Mohamed could make his debut for Guingamp as early as Saturday in their season opener away to Sochaux.

Kick-off is at 6pm Irish time.
