Sean Barron joins First Division title-chasers Galway United

Galway United have swooped in to sign former Cobh Ramblers goalkeeper Sean Barron.

Barron joins the Tribesmen from Munster Senior League side Avondale United.

The 29-year-old was recently on the books of Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland and played for the Rams during the 2022 campaign.

Goalkeeper Barron is set to come into Galway’s first-team squad after their second-choice netminder Alex Rutter was ruled out for a spell with injury.

He has also played for Waterford and Cork City in the past.

“We’re delighted to sign Sean,” boss John Caulfield said. “He has lots of League of Ireland experience with Cobh Ramblers especially.

“With Alex Rutter having an injury at the moment he is an ideal player to bring in.”

Barron joins the Tribesmen alongside Aodh Dervin and Wassim Aouachria – both of whom have joined this summer.

Elsewhere in the First Division, Athlone Town have confirmed the departure of Aaron McBride, Longford have parted ways with Evan Farrell while Katlego Mashigo has left Finn Harps.
