In an exciting rematch of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup final, the United States and the Netherlands ended their encounter with a 1-1 draw, thus extending USA's unbeaten World Cup run to 19 matches.

Jill Roord scored the opener for the Dutch in the 17th minute, making the most of a precise pass from Victoria Pelova. This marked the first time the USA had trailed in a Women's World Cup match since 2011.

The USA's response showed some uncertainty, as the team seemed momentarily shell-shocked by the Dutch lead.

However, the introduction of Rose Lavelle at half-time brought a wave of renewed vigour to the USA team.

Captain Lindsey Horan emerged as the game-changer for the USA.

In the 62nd minute, she responded to an excellent corner from Lavelle, demonstrating remarkable determination as she powered a near-post header past the Dutch goalkeeper.

The USA team seemed reinvigorated after the goal, pressing hard for a winner. They had a goal from Alex Morgan ruled out for offside and a Sofia Smith effort cleared off the line.

Nevertheless, the Dutch team held their ground, managing to secure a vital point in the tournament.

The draw leaves both teams in a strong position for qualification, as they await the outcome of the match between Portugal and Vietnam.

After the game, Lindsey Horan spoke about the match's intensity and the USA's ability to recover after going a goal down.

"It was a very competitive game against a very good team that we saw at the last World Cup do such good things," said the USA captain.

"For us, I think the biggest thing to take away is going down a goal and coming up with an answer to that. Also, the chances we created. We need to start finishing a few more of those."

This match's result ended a streak of six consecutive USA wins against European opposition in the Women's World Cup.
