WATCH: Georgie Kelly catches the eye for Rotherham in pre-season with hat-trick against Mansfield Town

Former Bohemians and Dundalk striker Georgie Kelly is raring to go for the upcoming Championship season after Rotherham claimed a 4-2 pre-season friendly win over Mansfield Town.

The ex-League of Ireland star netted a hat-trick for the Millers against their League Two opponents as the English league season gets set to return next month.

Kelly netted his first after pouncing on some slack Mansfield defending before then grabbing his second later on with a trademark header.

He repeated the trick soon after to take home the match ball, ensuring a good run-out for he and his teammates.

“I’ll take the hat-trick,” Kelly said after netting three for his side. “I won’t complain and I got a couple of nice headers.

“I wouldn’t read much into pre-season because it is a bit different to when the league starts but it’s a nice boost of confidence to have when you’re chipping in with goals. It’s always positive.”

The former Bohs striker missed the first week of pre-season with Rotherham but has impressed his boss Matt Taylor upon his return to training.

His hat-trick against Mansfield means that Kelly has scored four times during pre-season this summer.

“We’ve been pleased with Georgie during pre-season,” his boss Taylor said. “He came in a week later to the rest of the group on the history of his injuries.

“He’s still getting to a point where we can use him for certain minutes but he adds that dynamic attribute at the top end of the pitch.

“He always gets chances and he generally finishes them. It was a really good day for Georgie and a confidence booster.”
