Irish match official Michelle O’Neill will make her first appearance in this World Cup next week.

She will be part of the officiating panel for Monday’s match between Brazil and Panama in the Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide.

O'Neill will run the line for Welsh referee Cheryl Foster. The duo were part of the officiating team for this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League Final between Barcelona and Wolfsburg in the PSV Stadium in Eindhoven.

The Wexford and Welsh officials have worked together in a Champions League quarter-final last season and in the Women’s Super League this year including Spurs against Brighton in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Everton and Arsenal game.

O’Neill has been an assistant referee previously at two Women’s World Cups, the Tokyo Olympics and ran the line in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final.

She was also part of an all-women’s refereeing team, led by France’s Stephanie Frappart, who took charge of the 2019 UEFA Super Cup when Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side defeated Chelsea on penalties in Istanbul.
