FAI Cup Preview: Kilbarrack United -v- Finn Harps

KILBARRACK UNITED

Leinster Senior League outfit Kilbarrack United have their eyes on an FAI Cup scalp on Friday night when they welcome Finn Harps to Greendale Road (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Kilbarrack come into Friday’s tie following a stunning 5-0 win over Drumcondra in the last round of the competition.

The Leinster Senior League Senior Sunday outfit also possess a host of former League of Ireland names within their ranks.

And during their previous win in the cup against Drumcondra, former Shelbourne youngster Alex Cetiner and ex UCD defender Daniel Tobin both featured for the club.

But while they are out of season at the moment, they will be confident that they can at least trouble Harps at their home ground.

FINN HARPS

Dave Rogers’ side will be acutely aware of the importance of taking this tie seriously as they seek to avoid a cup upset against their Leinster Senior League opponents.

Harps are struggling towards the bottom end of the First Division – but they did at least breathe new life into their season last week thanks to a thrilling 4-3 win over Cobh Ramblers.

Meanwhile, the Co Donegal side have also tied teenage striker Sean O’Donnell down to a long-term deal at the club ahead of their trip to the capital.

“Sean is fully deserving of this new contract and we are delighted with his progress,” Rogers said this week. “As one of our own, Sean epitomises what we require from our players in terms of maximum effort and a desire to improve on a daily basis.

“Sean has taken his chance fantastically since coming through our Academy pathway and although he has had to be patient it shows the importance and maturity he now displays as a regular contributor to our first-team.

“As a group of staff now we must constantly encourage and educate Sean both on and off the field in his technical and tactical abilities as this is still only one step up the ladder in what can be achieved by Sean and we hope he and his family can be proud of his progress.”
