Shamrock Rovers begin their European campaign this evening in Tallaght Stadium in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.

They take on Icelandic champions Breidablik - with a guarantee for the winning side in this tie to get to the play-off in one of the UEFA competitions. The winners are set to play Copenhagen in the second qualifying round.

Last year, Rovers played 14 games in Europe beginning with a 3-0 home win over Hibernians of Malta and made it all the way to the group stages of the Europa Conference League.

They made second qualifying round but lost that tie dropping into the Europa League third qualifying round. They won that subsequent tie which effectively earned them a spot in the Europa Conference League group stages (after they lost the Europa League play-off).

The losers of this Ireland v Iceland clash will drop into the Europa Conference League second qualifying round where they will face the defeated team from the KI Klaksvik (Faroe Islands) and Ferencvaros tie.
