Everton have confirmed that Joao Virginia has signed a two year deal with the club that will keep him with the Toffees until June 2025.

“I’m really happy to be at Everton and it’s a great moment for me and my family to sign this new contract,” the goalkeeper said, speaking to the club’s media team.

“It’s nice to be back at Finch Farm and I’m looking forward to the season.

“A lot has changed since I’ve been away on loan last season. There’s new players and a new manager so it feels like a fresh start.

“Going out there and experiencing new football, new countries, new cultures, and new dressing rooms makes you grow a lot. As a goalkeeper, you need that.

“I’d like to play more and more. Obviously at a big club like Everton, it’s a step up but I want to take on that challenge.

“The goalkeeping group is really good and we have experience with [Jordan] Pickford and [Andy] Lonergan. I’m looking forward to working with them.”

The Portugal under 21 international signed for Everton from Arsenal in 2018 and has made a handful of first team appearances for the Toffees.

The 23 year old has had loan spells with Reading, Sporting CP and Cambuuur since arriving at Goodison Park.
