English Premier League teams preparing for 2023/24 season: An overview of summer friendlies

In anticipation of the 2023/24 Premier League season set to begin on 11th August 2023, the league's clubs have been laying out their pre-season plans. Here is an update on the clubs' summer schedules as of 9th July 2023 (list does not include all behind-closed-doors games).

AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth starts its pre-season with a match against Hibernian on the 13th of July at the Marbella Football Center. They continue with another match at the same venue against Maccabi Tel Aviv three days later. The team will travel for an away match against Southampton on July 25th, then host Atalanta on July 29th, and finally FC Lorient on August 5th.

Arsenal

Arsenal begins its pre-season tour with a game against Nurnberg at Max-Morlock-Stadion on July 13th. The team then travels to the United States to play the MLS All-Stars in Washington DC on July 19th, followed by a match against Man Utd in New York on July 22nd. The Gunners will then face Barcelona in Los Angeles on July 26th, before returning home to host AS Monaco on August 2nd. Their last pre-season match is against Man City at Wembley for the FA Community Shield on August 6th.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa start with an away match against Walsall on July 15th. The team will then play Lazio at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on August 3rd, before traveling to face Valencia on August 5th. In addition, Aston Villa will also take part in the PL Summer Series against Newcastle, Fulham, and Brentford on July 23rd, 26th, and 30th respectively.

Brentford

Brentford will participate in the Premier League Summer Series where five east coast states will play host to nine matches. The team faces Fulham on July 23rd at Lincoln Financial Field, Brighton at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 26th, and finally Aston Villa at FedExField on July 30th.

Brighton & Hove Albion



Apart from a match against Rayo Vallecano on August 6th, Brighton will also be participating in the PL Summer Series. They will face Chelsea on July 22nd at Lincoln Financial Field, Brentford on July 26th at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and Newcastle on July 28th at Red Bull Arena.

Burnley

Burnley's pre-season schedule includes only one game announced so far: an away match against Genk on July 22nd.

Chelsea

Chelsea's pre-season starts with a match against Wrexham in North Carolina on July 19th. The team then travels to Chicago to face Dortmund on August 2nd. The Blues will also take part in the PL Summer Series, facing Brighton on July 22nd at Lincoln Financial Field, Newcastle at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 26th, and Fulham at FedExField on July 30th.

Crystal Palace



Crystal Palace's pre-season starts with an away game against Barnet on July 11th. The team will then host Brondby on July 15th and Watford on July 22nd. Palace travels to Chicago to face Millonarios on July 26th, before playing Sevilla in Detroit on July 30th. The last pre-season match for Crystal Palace will be a home game against Lyon on August 5th.

Everton

Everton begins its pre-season with a game against Stade Nyonnais at the Colovray Sports Centre on July 14th. The team will then play three away matches against Tranmere on July 22nd, Bolton on July 25th, and Stoke on July 29th. Everton concludes its pre-season schedule with a home match against Sporting Clube de Portugal on August 5th.

Fulham

Fulham's entire pre-season is comprised of games in the PL Summer Series. The team plays Brentford on July 23rd at Lincoln Financial Field, Aston Villa at Exploria Stadium on July 26th, and finally Chelsea at FedExField on July 30th.

Liverpool

Liverpool will kick off its pre-season with an away match against Karlsruher on July 19th, followed by another away game against Greuther Furth on July 24th. The Reds will then travel to Singapore to face Leicester on July 30th and Bayern Munich on August 2nd. The team will conclude its pre-season schedule with a game against Darmstadt at Deepdale on August 7th.

Luton Town

Luton Town's pre-season involves two matches, one at home against Ipswich Town on July 25th, and an away game against Sheffield Wednesday on July 29th.

Man City

Man City's pre-season kicks off with a game against Yokohama F Marinos in Tokyo on July 23rd, followed by a match against Bayern Munich, also in Tokyo, on July 26th. The team then travels to Seoul to face Atletico Madrid on July 30th. Their pre-season ends with a match against Arsenal in the FA Community Shield at Wembley on August 6th.

Man Utd

Manchester United begins its pre-season with a game against Leeds in Oslo on July 12th, followed by a match against Lyon in Edinburgh on July 19th. They will then travel to New York to play Arsenal on July 22nd, San Diego to face Wrexham on July 25th, and Houston to play against Real Madrid on July 26th. The Red Devils will then take on Dortmund in Las Vegas on July 30th. They wrap up their pre-season with two matches, one against RC Lens at home on August 5th and one against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on August 6th.

Newcastle

Newcastle's pre-season kicks off with a match against Gateshead at the International Stadium on July 15th, followed by a match against Rangers at Ibrox Stadium three days later. The team will then host Fiorentina on August 5th, and Villarreal on August 6th. Newcastle will also take part in the PL Summer Series, facing Aston Villa on July 23rd at Lincoln Financial Field, Chelsea at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 26th, and Brighton at Red Bull Arena on July 28th.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest starts its pre-season with an away match against Notts County on July 15th, followed by two closed-door games against Valencia on July 18th and Levante on July 22nd. The team then travels to face PSV Eindhoven on July 30th and Stade Rennais at St George's Park on August 2nd. Their last pre-season match will be an away game against Eintracht Frankfurt on August 5th.

Sheffield Utd

Sheffield United will begin its pre-season with an away game against Chesterfield on July 15th. They then travel to play Estoril on July 19th and Rotherham on July 25th, before heading to Manchester to face Girona on July 26th. Their pre-season tour concludes with an away game against Derby on July 29th, followed by a home match against VfB Stuttgart on August 5th.

Tottenham Hotspurs

 

Spurs begin their pre-season with a game against West Ham in Perth on July 18th. They then travel to Bangkok to face Leicester on July 23rd and to Singapore to play Roma on July 26th. Spurs will wrap up their pre-season with a home game against Shakhtar Donetsk on August 6th.

West Ham

West Ham will start its pre-season with an away game against Boreham Wood on July 10th, followed by an away match against Perth Glory on July 15th. They will then travel to Perth to face Spurs on July 18th, before heading to Dagenham & Redbridge on July 22nd. West Ham will continue their travels with an away game against Rennes on July 29th and then against Bayer Leverkusen on August 5th.

Wolves

Wolves have only one pre-season match announced so far, which is a home game against Stade Rennais on August 5th.
