The Rebel Army are seeking to add to their squad to bolster their survival hopes and have wasted no time after the transfer window opening on Saturday.

Cork City interim manager, Liam Buckley, has confirmed that Republic of Ireland under-21 goalkeeper, Tiernan Brooks, has signed for the club.

This was revealed in the aftermath of a 1-1 draw with Drogheda at Turners Cross on Friday night. A late Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh strike earned the Leesider's a point to keep them in touching distance of the Drogs in eighth.

It is believed Brooks will sign on loan and this subject to the competition of paperwork going through. Speaking after the match, Buckley said: “He comes highly recommended, he’s an Irish U21 International, and he will give serious competition.

“Jimmy Corcoran has done great for us, but we need competition. We need competition in all positions, and he certainly provides that.”

The 20-year-old made his first team debut for Notts County towards the end of last season as his club were successful in getting promoted back into the football league.

He declared for the Republic of Ireland earlier this year and made his first appearance for the U21 international team at Turners Cross in a 2-1 friendly win over Iceland.

The Dubliner also confirmed he's expecting more signings to arrive soon in light of injuries to key players.

“It’s not just Tiernan, we’ll be bringing in one or two more players – please God – over the next week or two because we have picked up a few injuries with Darragh (Crowley) out for the season, Ethon (Varian), (Albin) Winbo, there’s been a few injuries that we’ve picked up.

“On top of that we just want to try and strengthen it up a wee bit to give ourselves a chance of moving up the table."
