Chelsea has bid farewell to their goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, who has completed a transfer to Al-Ahli, a team in the Saudi Professional League, after three seasons at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old Senegal international will be remembered at Chelsea for his integral role in the club's 2021 Champions League triumph. Mendy conceded only twice in seven knockout matches, both unstoppable volleys from Porto forward Mehdi Taremi and Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

Mendy recorded an impressive nine Champions League clean sheets in the 2020/21 season, a record unmatched by any other goalkeeper making their debut in Europe's top-tier club competition.

His performance led to him being named UEFA Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season and The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper.

Mendy also earned second place in the voting for the Yashin Trophy, becoming only the second Chelsea goalkeeper to be shortlisted for the prestigious award.

His second season at Stamford Bridge saw further success as Chelsea clinched both the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

During the 2021/22 season, Mendy kept an impressive 23 clean sheets, including in both domestic finals. He also made history with five consecutive shutouts in Champions League home fixtures, a first by a goalkeeper of an English club.

Mendy reached his 30th clean sheet for Chelsea in his 54th appearance, a milestone surpassed only by Petr Cech.

Though his appearances were limited last term, Mendy achieved the 100-game milestone, with 49 of those games ending with a clean sheet.

Mendy's transfer follows the recent departures of Kalidou Koulibaly and N'Golo Kante, who have also moved to teams in the Saudi League.
