Exeter City have announced the signing of 23-year-old Scottish forward Jack Aitchison on a two-year permanent contract.

The move comes following his release from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.

Aitchison, a graduate of the Celtic youth system, holds the record as the youngest ever player to represent Celtic in a competitive match at just 16 years and 71 days old. He also holds the record as the youngest ever scorer for the club.

During his time with Celtic, Aitchison had key developmental loan spells at Dumbarton and Alloa Athletic.

In September 2019, he joined Forest Green Rovers on a season-long loan where he scored five goals in 28 games.

This led to a three-year contract with Barnsley in October 2020, accompanied by further loan spells at Stevenage and again at Forest Green. He most recently netted for the Tykes in a 3-1 victory over Accrington in January.

Before joining Exeter City, Aitchison made 11 appearances for Motherwell during the last season.

"Jack is a player I've known for some time," Exeter City's Gary Caldwell said about his latest acquisition.

He praised Aitchison's progressive career and highlighted that his hunger for development and quality fit perfectly into the club's profile.

"He'll bring goals as well. We worked hard to get him as he was wanted by a number of clubs, so we're delighted to bring him in," Caldwell added.

He also acknowledged the challenges in signing Aitchison, stating, "It wasn't an easy signing to complete - we had to sell the club to him, and he had lots of other options."
