Europa Conference League path opens up for League of Ireland trio

Derry City may play against Finnish side KUPS Kuopio in the second round of the Europa Conference League qualifiers - if they qualify.

The Candystripes will face Faroe Islands champions HB Torshavn in their first round clash.

And the FAI Cup holders will play the first-leg in Torshavn, with the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium set to host the second leg.

But if they come through that, they will play the Finnish side – with the Candystripes set to play the first leg at home if they get that far.

Meanwhile, St Patrick’s Athletic will play the winners of the tie between Gzira United (Gibraltar) and Glentoran (Northern Ireland) should they progress.

The Saints will play Luxembourgish side F91 Dudelange in their first round tie.

Jon Daly’s men will play the first leg away from home, with the game scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 12th.

The second leg will be played on Thursday July 20th at Richmond Park.

If they come through that, they will face one of Gzira United or Glentoran – with the Saints set to play the first leg away from home in the second qualifying round.

Elsewhere, Dundalk may also play against the winners of the tie between KA Akureyri (Iceland) and Connah’s Quays Nomads (Wales) in the second qualifying round.

Yesterday, the Lilywhites were drawn to play against FCB Magpies from Gibraltar in the first qualifying round.

Stephen O’Donnell’s men will play the first leg of that tie away from home, with the return leg set to take place at Oriel Park.

But if they qualify from that, as expected, they will play the first leg away from home against either the Icelandic or Welsh side in the second qualifying round.

However, if Shamrock Rovers are beaten in the first round of the Champions League qualifiers against the winners of the preliminary round – they will face the losers of the tie between KI Klaksvik (Iceland) and Ferencvaros (Hungary).

All dates and times will be confirmed in due course.
