Shamrock Rovers midfielder Markus Poom played in Estonia’s 3-0 EURO 2024 qualifier defeat at home to Belgium in the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn on Tuesday night.

Poom, who is on loan with the Hoops from Flora Tallinn, made his 16th international appearance for the Sinisärgid (or Blueshirts) and played 61 minutes of the game before being substituted.

Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the first half with Johan Bakayoko scoring in the 90th minute.

Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had left the Belgian camp ahead of the qualifier seemingly unhappy that Lukaku was handed the captain’s armband.

Strasburg keeper Matz Sels started in goal for the Red Devils.

Poom was an unused sub at the weekend in Baku when Estonia drew 1-1 against Azerbaijan in their Group F game – their only point of the campaign so far.

Austria top the group with ten points from the dozen points they have played for, while Belgium are three behind but with a game in hand.

Sweden sit third with three points after three games.
