Shamrock Rovers’ Markus Poom has been named in Estonia’s starting line up today for their EURO 2024 qualifier at home to Belgium in the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn (kick off 7.45pm).

He was an unused sub at the weekend in Baku when Estonia drew 1-1 against Azerbaijan in their Group F game.

The midfielder, who is on loan from Flora Tallinn, is making his 16th international appearance today for the Sinisärgid (or Blueshirts).

Poom was injured during the last international window . Estonia began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Austria .

The 24-year-old midfielder has linked up with his Dad who is part of the coaching team with Estonia – his father is Mart Poom who was a goalkeeper who played in the Premier League with Derby County.

“Playing for your national team is always an honour and any chance you get you do want to join them,” said Poom when he spoke recently in Hoops Scene, the Shamrock Rovers match programme.

“Right now we have a really good national team with a lot of good young players and also guys who have a lot of experience. Estonia is a team on the way up and I really feel that we are improving year-on-year.”
