Shelbourne confirm departure of Ireland prospect Jessie Stapleton

Women’s Premier Division champions Shelbourne have confirmed the imminent exit of Jessie Stapleton to an English club.

The Reds confirmed that a Women’s Super League club would unveil her signing on July 1.

As a result, Stapleton will play her last game for Shels against Linfield in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup on Saturday.

Stapleton departs the Reds having made 71 appearances and scoring 21 goals for the club.

She has also won two League of Ireland titles and an FAI Cup.

“It’s been a pleasure to play for this incredible club,” she said.

“I’ve grown so much as a player winning two league titles, an FAI Cup and had the amazing experience of playing in the Champions League.”

And Shels boss Noel King added: “Jessie has been a role model, not only for her teammates but for aspiring footballers in our community.

“Her professionalism, humility, and determination are qualities that we greatly admire and respect.

“Her positive influence has extended far beyond the pitch, it was a privilege to work with Jessie and I wish her all the best for the future.”
