Blackburn Rovers have secured the future of their versatile forward Zak Gilsenan with a new two-year contract, running through June 2025, and the option for an additional year.

Gilsenan, aged 20, who is eligible to play for both Australia and the Republic of Ireland, has been a standout in the Rovers' ranks since his time in the Under-16s.

He previously honed his skills at globally renowned clubs Barcelona and Liverpool.

Last season saw Gilsenan recover from an injury-marred 2021-22 campaign to cement his place in the Rovers Under-21s squad.

His contributions, including several key goals, helped the team stay afloat in Premier League 2 and reach the final of the Premier League Cup. One of his notable performances includes a goal against Brentford in the cup final.

Speaking about his extended tenure with Blackburn Rovers, Gilsenan said, "It’s a great feeling to sign another contract with the club and hopefully I’ll be here at Ewood on more occasions in the future."

He also voiced his intent to make a significant impact in the upcoming season and hopes to break into the first team.

Gilsenan, who has represented both Australia and the Republic of Ireland at the international level, marked his debut for the Republic of Ireland Under-19s with a goal, securing a 2-2 draw against Sweden.
