Katie McCabe, the captain of the Republic of Ireland, has been named the Arsenal Women's Player of the Season for 2022/23.

This is the second time McCabe has won the end-of-season award, previously securing the prize in 2021.

The poll was exceptionally close, with McCabe securing 37 per cent of the votes from supporters.

She narrowly edged out Frida Maanum, beating her to the accolade by a slender margin of just two per cent. Lia Walti took the third place on the podium.

McCabe's victorious campaign included a standout performance against Wolfsburg in the Champions League semi-final and the scoring of the WSL Goal of the Season with a trademark rocket against Manchester City.

Her versatility, being competent as both a full-back and a winger on either flank, rendered her an indispensable asset to Jonas Eidevall's side.

This was particularly critical in light of the injuries that key members of the squad sustained this season.

In a statement, the club acknowledged her instrumental role, particularly as the season came to a close.

"As Kim Little and then Leah Williamson were sidelined through injury, McCabe donned the captain's armband for the final two months of the season. Her experience, leadership and boundless determination were just what our team needed in the home straight to finish third and secure Champions League football."

This season has been one of accolades for McCabe, who also received the women's Goal of the Season award, as voted for by supporters. Her winning strike against Manchester City was also named the WSL Goal of the Season, narrowly beating Frida Maanum's effort against Bayern Munich in the official poll by a mere two votes.
