Former Derry City assistant boss Kevin Deery has been appointed Head Coach of NIFL Championship side Institute.

Institute are a Derry based team who currently ground share with Derry City at the Ryan McBride Stadium.

And just a few weeks ago they parted company with former manager Brian Donaghey at the end of the 2022/23 season.

They finished in 11th position in the Championship last season, narrowly avoiding relegation.

Deery spent his entire playing career with Derry City making 99 appearances for them in a 13-year career from 2001 to 2014.

He captained the Candystripes in the last four years of his career from 2010 to 2014 having been appointed by then manager and current Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny.

He was also capped twice by Ireland at under-21 level.

After retirement he moved into coaching and management and managed Institute to two NIFL Championship play offs in 2015/16 and 2016/17, both of which they lost.

He spent a brief period as assistant manager at Sligo Rovers before returning to the Brandywell as Declan Devine’s assistant from 2018 to 2021.

Deery’s most recent job was as manager of Moville Celtic in the Inishowen League in Donegal.
