Hartlepool United has confirmed the acquisition of goalkeeper Joel Dixon in a permanent deal from League One side Bolton Wanderers.

Joel Dixon, 29, boasts a wealth of experience that will form an integral part of the squad that manager John Askey is assembling for the upcoming season.

A Middlesbrough native, Dixon began his football journey with Sunderland, and even had a brief loan stint with Hartlepool United in 2015 where he worked alongside Scott Flinders.

Dixon's career trajectory took him to Barrow, where he played every match in the club's National League title-winning season in 2019/20. The following year, he made 47 appearances for the club in League Two, a performance that earned him a transfer to Bolton Wanderers in League One.

The six-foot-four goalkeeper has recently made 24 appearances for Bolton in League One, which included a clean sheet and a penalty save on his debut against then Championship side Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

Speaking on his return to Hartlepool, Dixon said, "I am delighted to join Hartlepool. I know how much of a great club this is from my previous spell and after speaking to the Gaffer, I know we are going to be going in the right direction. I can’t wait to get started."

Hartlepool's manager John Askey expressed his satisfaction with Dixon's signing, stating "I’m very pleased to get Joel over the line. A previous national league winner with plenty of experience in both League Two and League One. He knows the area and fits in well with what we are looking for."

The club has confirmed that Dixon’s move is subject to a medical.
