Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the successful signing of Sheffield United's 22-year-old midfielder George Broadbent.

The undisclosed deal includes a two-year contract with a potential extension for a third year.

Expressing his excitement, Broadbent said, “I’m really pleased to get the deal done. Doncaster is a really good opportunity to show what I can do and hopefully be successful this season with the team and push on in my career. It’s an exciting project the gaffer is building on and he’s someone that’s had success in the past. And it’s an opportunity for me to come and excite people.”

Broadbent, who began his career with Manchester United Academy, garnered senior experience with Belgian club Beerschot and Rochdale.

He also spent the previous season on loan with Boreham Wood, where he scored six goals in 42 appearances.

Rovers' boss, Grant McCann, shared his delight on the new addition to his team, stating, “I’m delighted to get George signed. He had a tremendous season last year at Boreham Wood and we’re absolutely delighted to get him in."

"He’s a player that can penetrate between full backs and centre halves, he likes to run into the box. He’s a physical presence as well. He’s young, hungry, dynamic and I think he’ll complement brilliantly what we’ve already got in midfield.”

Broadbent is enthusiastic about joining the Rovers and working under McCann's guidance, citing McCann's successful track record with young players as a motivating factor.

"I’m really looking forward to working with the manager,” Broadbent remarked. “He has a past history of helping young players develop and become a success. The manager was really positive from our first phone call. He explained the project and how he sees working with me and what he can do to help me."

Offering insight into his playing style, Broadbent said, “I’m a box-to-box midfielder who likes to get up and down, attacking and defending. I contribute goals and assists and I see myself arriving late in the box to score goals. I’ll give 100 per cent effort in every game and leave everything on the pitch. I’m a real team member that’s willing to learn and adapt to different roles, whether that’s in a defensive position or an attacking position.”
