Women’s Premier Division round-up: Peamount United defeat Shelbourne as Shamrock Rovers maintain unbeaten streak

Sadbh Doyle’s first-half strike saw Peamount United maintain their stranglehold on top spot in the Women’s Premier Division at Tolka Park on Saturday.

Peas came into the game knowing that a win would keep them clear of Noel King’s double champions – and they did just that.

Shels are now six points behind James O’Callaghan’s side having lost three games already this term.

But just one point behind Peamount United is Shamrock Rovers who occupy second place.

Collie O’Neill’s charges are the only unbeaten side left in the league and they kept up their unbeaten streak with a win against Galway United at Tallaght Stadium.

The Hoops raced into a 2-0 lead through goals from Abbie Larkin and Aine O’Gorman.

But the Tribeswomen halved the deficit in the second period through Gemma McGuinness.

And that was how it finished – with Rovers now set for a crunch Dublin derby against Bohemians next weekend at Dalymount Park.

Bohs, however, were held to a 0-0 draw against DLR Waves.

Waves – with boss Laura Heffernan taking charge for the first time after Graham Kelly’s departure – remain in 8th while Bohs have moved level on points with Shels.

Elsewhere, Athlone Town routed Treaty United at Lissywoolen.

Tommy Hewitt’s side eased to a 7-0 victory, with goals from Gillian Keenan, Dana Scheriff, Chloe Singleton, Scarlett Herron, Kellie Brennan and Hazel Donegan seeing them through.

And at Turner’s Cross, Cork City were beaten 2-0 at home by Wexford Youths.

Alix Mendez’s own-goal gave Youths a first-half lead before Emily Corbet sealed the deal with an 82nd minute strike.
