Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that John Martin will take up the role as the club’s CEO in mid-June. He will replace Denis Donohoe who held the position for the last couple of years.

Martin played for Shamrock Rovers in 2007 and 2008 and had spells at UCD and Longford Town (where he won the 2004 FAI Cup).

He was part of the coaching team at Shelbourne and Longford Town and also had a spell managing Shamrock Rovers’ under-19 team.

Martin is a UEFA A Licence holder and previously completed the CEO of a Sports Organisation course run by the Global Institute of Sport and VSI.

Away from the game his work experience is in the financial sector with Irish Life.

The Hoops noted on their website that:

Denis informed the Board early in 2023 that, after two years at the helm, he wished to move on to new opportunities but agreed to remain in the role to facilitate a smooth transition to a successor.

The Board are extremely grateful to Denis for his contribution to a very successful period for Shamrock Rovers both on and off the pitch.

He leaves his role with our thanks and best wishes.

Rovers stated that 43-year-old Martin ‘has very strong connection with the League of Ireland both on and off the pitch over many years’ and ‘has successfully worked in senior leadership roles in the financial services industry for over 20 years’.

Denis Donohoe was appointed to the Rovers CEO role in June 2021 after spells as Commercial Director at Lír Chocolates and Managing Director at L’Oreal UK & Ireland Active Cosmetics Division.

Prior to that Brendan Murray was CEO for the club for a five year spell.
