Premier Division round-up: Bohemians stay top as Shamrock Rovers claim first win

Bohemians stayed top of the Premier Division thanks to a late win away to Sligo Rovers on Saturday night at the Showgrounds.

The Gypsies came into the clash after being unseated at the top of the pile by Derry City, but had played a game less than the Candystripes.

And they rose to the challenge against the Bit O’ Red with Polish defender Krystian Nowak scoring the crucial goal in a 1-0 win.

On Friday night, Derry City saw off ten-man Shelbourne to maintain their good form thanks to Ryan Graydon’s goal at Tolka Park.

Defender Paddy Barrett was dismissed for Damien Duff’s side during the game, with the decision incurring the ire of Duff after the game.

The former Ireland international hit out at the refereeing decision to dismiss Barrett as the Reds slumped to their first home league defeat of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers also claimed a morale-boosting win away to Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Rory Gaffney, Lee Grace, Johnny Kenny and Graham Burke all scored to ensure Stephen Bradley’s side wait for a win did not extend to another week.

Drogheda United also recorded a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Cork City at Turner’s Cross.

Ruairi Keating opened the scoring for Colin Healy’s side but an own-goal from Ally Gilchrist ensured that Drogs left Leeside with a point to show.

And at Richmond Park, a Chris Forrester brace saw the Saints dismiss UCD with a 3-0 win. ‘

The midfielder opened the scoring with a first-half header before Jake Mulraney then found the net with a fortuitous finish.

Forrester then sealed the win in the early stages of the second half with a delightful dink over Kian Moore as the Athletic moved away from 9th spot.
