First Division round-up: Galway United edge past Longford Town as Bray win thriller against Wexford

Galway United continued their unblemished winning record with a narrow 1-0 win against Longford Town.

Former Longford Town winger Darren Clarke netted for the Tribesmen against his former club in the 76th minute to ensure they would not drop points at home.

John Caulfield’s side started the game well and ought to have taken an early lead through Stephen Walsh.

Walsh, however, saw his limp penalty saved by Town goalkeeper Jack Brady as the scores remained level at the break.

But Clarke struck in the second half for Galway to seal the three points – and send them six points clear at the top of pile after six games.

Meanwhile, Bray Wanderers edged a five-goal thriller against Wexford at the Carlisle Grounds.

Ben Feeney opened the scoring for the Seagulls in the sixth minute before Wexford took the lead inside the first half hour of the contest.

Aaron Dobbs levelled matters in the 10th minute before Ethan Boyle prodded home to make it 2-1 to James Keddy’s men on the half-hour mark.

But Feeney struck again just before the break to level matters.

And it was in the second-half when defender Cole Omorehiomwan found the net to seal all three points for the Seagulls.

The results sends them into second-place after Cobh Ramblers were held to a 2-2 draw away to Finn Harps.

Seamas Keogh opened the scoring for Dave Rogers men before Brazilian striker Filip Da Silva doubled their lead shortly after.

Jack Doherty then missed a penalty minutes into the second half, but Ramblers began their fightback soon after.

Doherty halved the deficit in the 55th minute before he then found the net again in the 72nd minute to salvage a point.

Sub Sean O’Donnell was sent off for Harps late on – but the Co Donegal side held on for a point at Finn Park.

And at Mounthawk Park, Athlone Town claimed a late 1-0 win against Kerry.

Valerii Dolia scored for Dermot Lennon’s side and send them into fourth place in the table after six games played.
