League Preview: Kerry -v- Athlone Town

KERRY

Kerry welcome Athlone Town to Mounthawk Park on Friday night as they chase their first win as a senior League of Ireland club (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Kingdom fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat in their last game against Wexford but showed signs of improvement in the game.

Billy Dennehy’s side came into the clash off the back of a dispiriting 9-1 loss to Galway United the week previous.

But they rallied and were perhaps unfortunate not to have claimed a point as Leo Gaxha scored for them in a one-goal loss.

Their next assignment sees them take on Athlone Town – and they will be looking to claim a scalp against the Midlanders at home.

ATHLONE TOWN

Athlone Town claimed a point from the jaws of defeat in their last outing with a 2-2 draw against Treaty United.

Dermot Lennon’s side were trailing 2-0 and were a man down before they launched a remarkable late fightback against Tommy Barrett’s men.

Enda Curran scored in the 52nd minute to give the Limerick side a 1-0 lead just four minutes before Athlone’s Jamar Campion-Hinds was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

And in the 69th minute the striker looked to have sealed the points for Treaty with another goal.

But Athlone rallied late on and scored two goals.

American Isaie Louis halved the deficit in the 83rd minute before Noah van Geenen levelled with the last kick of the game in the 99th minute.

But Athlone will be without Campion-Hinds on Friday due to suspension.

Referee: Ian O’Keefe.
