Dundalk reinstated to the Leinster Senior Cup as Drogheda United bow out against Usher Celtic

Dundalk have confirmed that they have been reinstated to the Leinster Senior Cup following their removal from the competition.

The Lilywhites were due to play Shelbourne in the fourth-round of the tournament but were made forfeit the game after failing to arrange a date for the tie.

But following a successful appeal Dundalk have been reinstated to the competition and will face Damien Duff’s side at a ‘later date’

A statement read: “Dundalk FC can confirm that our appeal to the Leinster FA in relation to our removal from the Leinster Senior Cup was successful.

“A date for our fourth-round fixture against Shelbourne will be announced in due course.”

The winners of the tie will play First Division Wexford in the next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, Drogheda United have been dumped out at the quarter-finals stage by junior outfit Usher Celtic – losing 4-2 after extra-time.

Kevin Doherty’s youthful side raced into an early 2-0 lead but were pegged back on both occasions as they bowed out at Weavers Park.

Dylan Grimes opened the scoring in the 4th minute of the game before Warren Davis struck to double Drogheda’s advantage in the 13th minute.

But Usher fought back and halved the deficit on the half hour mark through Gary Gannon.

And the game was then level in the 54th minute when Garreth Kilkenny slotted home his penalty which sent the game to extra-time.

It was then when Usher took charge scoring twice in the final 30 minutes of the contest.

Gannon scored in the 93rd minute to make it 3-2, before Paul Keane then found the back of the net with Usher’s fourth in the 103rd minute.
