Longford Town sign Gary Armstrong

Longford Town have unveiled the signing of former Athlone Town midfielder Gary Armstrong.

Armstrong, 27, hails from Sligo and spent the 2022 First Division campaign with Athlone under Martin Russell and Dermot Lennon.

The midfielder was also on the books of Sligo Rovers as a teenager and has played in the Irish League for Ballinamallard United and Ballymena United.

But his stint at the Athlone Town Stadium last season was his first regular season of senior League of Ireland football.

And he joins Longford Town to complete Stephen Henderson’s squad for the 2023 campaign.

Henderson has made the Sligo native his 19^th recruit of the season.

Longford began the season with a 3-1 loss at home to Athlone Town. They return to action on Friday night when they take on Waterford at the RSC.
