Dan Casey joins Motherwell after spell in America

Former Bohemians defender Dan Casey has joined Scottish Premiership side Motherwell after a spell in the United States with Sacramento Republic.

Casey spent his most recent time in the USL, starring alongside Lee Desmond at the club.

And after catching the interest of a number of MLS clubs, Casey has opted to return to Europe and join Motherwell.

Casey, 25, enjoyed two stints at Bohemians from 2017-18 and in 2020 – with a spell at Cork City sandwiched in between.

And after two years in the States with Sacramento Republic, he has linked up with the Well.

The Dubliner joins former Bohemians duo Ross Tierney and Robert Mahon at the club, although Mahon is currently on loan at Dunfermline.

Former Sligo Rovers and Finn Harps star Shane Blaney has also recently moved to Fir Park.

“Dan has been someone we have been tracking for a while,” Motherwell boss Steven Hammell said.

“He had a great season in America where MLS clubs were interested in securing his signature.

“We feel like we needed some cover in this area of the pitch with Shane picking up a knock in our most recent game.

“As I’ve said before, before I sign any player, they need to want to be here and that’s the case with Dan.”
