The 2023 President's Cup between Premier Division Champions Shamrock Rovers and FAI Cup winners Derry City will take place on Friday February 10 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

The last two finals have taken place in Tallaght Stadium, the home of Shamrock Rovers. The reigning league champions are set to play their first two league games away from home due to ongoing construction of Tallaght Stadium’s North Stand.

Rovers have played in the last two finals with both games going to penalty shoot outs in Tallaght. In 2021 Dundalk won 4-3 on penalties and last season the Hoops beat St. Patrick’s Athletic 5-4 after the game went directly to spot kicks after 90 minutes in front of 5.426 spectators.

President Michael D Higgins put his name to the competition in 2014 which has become the season curtain raiser and reflects his keen interest in the game here. Before President Higgins took up the highest office in the land, he was President of Galway United and was a member of the board at the club.
