PFAI announce nominees for end of season awards

The Professional Footballers Association of Ireland has announced the shortlist for Premier Division and First Division Player of the Year along with the nominees for Young Player of the Year.

Derry City are represented twice among the three nominees for Player of the Year with Mark Connolly and Cameron Dummigan making the shortlist.

Also nominated is Shamrock Rovers striker and Premier Division Player of the Month for October, Rory Gaffney.

Rovers have a further nomination for Young Player of the Year with Andy Lyons making the list.

The defender is joined by St Patrick’s Athletic’s Joe Redmond and Waterford marksman Phoenix Patterson.

Patterson is also being considered for the First Division Player of the Year award and he is joined by fellow sharpshooters Stephen Walsh from Galway United and Treaty United’s Enda Curran.

Walsh netted 15 times in the First Division this season, while Curran scored 13 times – Patterson topped the goalscoring charts in the second tier with 17 goals during the Blues campaign.

The winners will be announced on Saturday, 19 November.
