Longford Town have announced the departure of first team manager Gary Cronin.

A statement from the club has said that the manager resigned, “due to personal circumstances.”

The announcement comes following De Town’s playoff defeat to Galway United on Sunday evening with the Tribesmen running out 5-2 winners across the two legs.

Cronin was appointed manager of Longford in December 2021, taking over the first team after the departure of Daire Doyle following the club’s relegation from the Premier Division last year.

He was also manager of Bray Wanderers for several seasons before taking the helm at Bishopsgate, Cronin had also spent time at Longford as a player and had been Tony Cousins’ assistant manager for a time.

“Gary brought the club into another playoff this season, finishing a respectable fourth in the league, only behind full-time outfits Galway, Waterford and league winners Cork City,” the statement from Longford said on Monday.

“The club would like to express our huge thanks to Gary and his backroom staff for their tremendous efforts this season.

“We wish Gary all the best in the future.”
