It was an entertaining affair in the City of the Tribes on Friday night as two of the favourites to win the First Division met for the first time this season.

Galway United were two goals down to Waterford at half time but the home side rallied and scored twice in the second half to earn a share of the points.

Jordan Adeyemo is a new signing at Eamonn Deacy Park having joined the Tribesmen from Drogheda United during the winter – with just minutes gone in the second half he scored his first ever goal for the club to give the home side the foundation for their comeback, Stephen Walsh came off the bench to add a second to complete a huge turnaround by Galway.

“I think in the first half we weren’t too great, but we came out in the second half very good. We were unlucky not to get the win in the end. The fans were brilliant, and they gave us a huge boost especially in the second half,” Adeyemo said, giving his thoughts on the game to extratime.com on Friday night.

“You could say that we were nearly under a spell in the second half the way we came out. We were like monsters in the second half.

“John did have a few words before the second half. He was disappointed with us, but we were disappointed in ourselves as well.

“Everyone was disappointed with the way we played the first half, we started a bit slow, and we got a bit of a kick at half time and we did what we had to do in the second half,” he explained.

Adeyemo’s goal was a beautifully taken header from a lovely, lofted cross by another new arrival at Deacy Park, Spaniard Manu Dimas, and on his home debut for the club the striker was pleased to get the ball in the net – but he was keen to keep taking the season one game at a time.

“It felt great, it’s my first goal at my new club. I couldn’t do much of a celebration as we were still 2-1 down, all I could do was give a little scream and then obviously go on and see if we could get another one and if we could get the win.

“I think it’s best that we take it game by game. I think we need to digest the game today and go into training tomorrow for recovery and look forward to Bray next week, that’s all we can do.”

The Tribesmen travel to the Carlisle Grounds on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm), it will be the first meeting between the side since Wanderers ended Galway’s season in the playoffs last November.
