Shelbourne FC have announced the signing of Trinidad and Tobago international Dan Carr.

The striker had been a free agent after leaving National League side Welling United last December.

Carr’s last spell in the League of Ireland was with current champions Shamrock Rovers, who he played two seasons with before leaving in August 2019. He scored 17 goals and contributed nine assists during his time at Tallaght Stadium.

Shelbourne manager Damien Duff and his assistant Joey O’Brien would have been familiar with Carr from their time at Rovers also.

Since then, the 27-year-old has had stints with Apollon Limassol in Cyprus, Bengaluru United in India, and Kakkonen in Finland.

The striker has won six caps for Trinidad and Tobago to date, last featuring in a World Cup qualifier win against Saint Kitts and Nevis last August.

With Shelbourne hosting FAI Cup champions St. Patrick’s Athletic at Tolka Park on opening night, Carr told the club’s website that he is eager to get going.

“I’m here to help Shels win as many games as possible,” he said.

“There’s great energy in the squad and I can see there’s no fear there. I’m looking forward to playing in Tolka Park and working with Damien, Joey, David McCaillister and the whole squad and staff. I can’t wait to get going.”

Duff added that Carr chose the Drumcondra side over other offers and said that his experience in the league will be important.

“I am delighted that Dan has chosen us over a host of other clubs,” said Duff.

“He knows the division, which is important, can create out of nothing and has an absolute edge to his game that I love. Dan has a massive hunger and desire for this season which is the reason he has settled so quickly”
