Following the successful promotion of players such as Killian Philips and Jordan Adeyemo from the Drogheda United Academy to the first team, the Boynesiders have continued to reinvest in their youth structure with the re-signings of Mohammed Boudiaf and Charles Mutawe.

Both players can operate in defence or midfield, Boudiaf is entering his fourth season at the club, having joined the under-17 squad ahead of their 2019 season while Mutawe is in his second term after signing from Shelbourne under-19s in 2021, having started his career with St. Patrick's Athletic.

The 2021 campaign saw the duo make their senior debuts for the club - Mutawe against Waterford and Boudiaf a few months later, on the final night of the season against Shamrock Rovers.

They were also key members of the Boynesiders' under-19 Shield winning squad in 2021. Gavin Fleming's side defeated Waterford 3-1 on the day, with a Boudiaf double earning him the Man of the Match award the day after his debut against Shamrock Rovers.
