The Lilywhites have announced the signing of Sam Bone from St. Patrick’s Athletic.

The 23-year-old was an integral part of the St. Pat’s side that finished second in the 2021 Premier Division, before winning the FAI Cup last month.

Born in Malaysia, Bone moved back to England and came through Charlton’s academy before moving to Shamrock Rovers in 2017.

The centre-back made 49 appearances in total for the Hoops, including four appearances in Europa League qualifying.

Bone swapped Tallaght for Waterford in 2019 and made 22 appearances for The Blues across two seasons.

After Waterford finished one point off a European spot in fifth, the 23-year-old signed for St. Patrick’s Athletic ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Bone shone for Stephen O’Donnell’s side, making 35 appearances culminating in November’s dramatic FAI Cup victory over Bohemians.

Bone is the third player to have followed O’Donnell to Oriel Park, after the recent signings of John Mountney and Robbie Benson.

Bone told dundalkfc.com, “when it was announced that Stephen had moved to Dundalk, I was hoping he’d phone me as well.”

“I had a really good relationship with him, and I learned a lot under him last year” he said.

“I think Dundalk were in a false position last season. It’s a huge club and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the fans and the people of the town.

"Hopefully we can get them back to where they were a few years ago, winning the league, the FAI Cup and back into Europe.””

“I can’t wait to work in an environment full of winners,” he added. You look at the likes of Patrick Hoban, David McMillan, and Andy Boyle, they have been at the top for most of their careers. I am still young, and I am looking forward to learning from them. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
