Recently appointed manager Kevin Doherty has bolstered his Drogheda United defence with the capture of promising central defender Andrew Quinn from rivals Dundalk FC.

The 19-year-old has been involved in several underage international squads and was most recently called up to the Irish Under 21s squad for the fixture against Montenegro.

Having started his career at Home Farm, he played with Dundalk U17s before making a solitary league appearance for the Lilywhites at the latter end of the 2020 season.

He gained valuable first team experience on loan at Bray Wanderers for the 2021 season, playing 27 league games and scoring once as the Seagulls racked up 11 clean sheets - the same number as league winners Shelbourne and just one behind Galway United.

Speaking to droghedaunitedfc.com, the stopper was positive in regarding his experience at the Carlisle Grounds, “I really enjoyed it (loan at Bray), I got loads of minutes.

“I was really grateful to Bray for the opportunity to play with them for the season. I learned loads from the management and players there as well.

“I want to improve as much as I can and play in the Premier Division. Drogheda were the club that suited me really well and I’m looking forward to it.”

As well as sharing the same position as his manager, both Quinn and Doherty also spent time with Home Farm and Bray Wanderers while the duo also have Irish international Under 18 caps - Doherty receiving his call up under Brian Kerr in 1998 with Quinn, in 2020, part of an Under 18 side managed by Andy Reid who was a member of Kerr’s Under 16 European Championship winning squad in the same year.
