Galway WFC win WNL under-19 League Title

Galway WFC have been crowned Women’s National League Under 19 Champions for 2021.

In the first year of the WNL under 19 competition Galway have emerged as the inaugural champions with a 6-3 win over Athlone Town on Tuesday night.

Peamount United finish in second place just two points behind the Tribeswomen.

A hattrick from Aoibhín Donnelly, a brace from Abbie Callanan and a single goal from Shauna Brennan gave Galway their sixth win in the League phase of the season, and the title.

Athlone Town didn’t go down without a fight and scored three times against Galway at Lissywollen, goalkeeper and captain for the Tribeswomen Hannah Walsh pulled off a penalty save to deny the Town a fourth goal in the second half.

The Tribeswomen are in line for a League and Cup double as they now face into the Under 19 Cup Final against DLR Waves. The sides meet on Sunday, 14 November at Eamonn Deacy Park, kick-off 4pm.
