First Division Round-Up: Shelbourne take giant step towards the title as UCD continue good form

Shelbourne extended their lead at the top of the First Division table thanks to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at home to Bray Wanderers.

Richie O’Farrell’s leveller earned the Seagulls a point after Ryan Brennan gave Shels a first-half lead.

But the Reds were still able to extend their lead at the top of the table thanks to Galway’s costly defeat away to Athlone.  

Galway’s defeat in Athlone was the first of win of Paul Doolin’s stewardship of the Co. Westmeath side.

Kurtis Byrne’s second-half strike was enough to seal all three points for the Midlanders.

And UCD continued their impressive run of form thanks to a 2-0 win away to Cobh Ramblers.

Goals from Colm Whelan and Dara Keane set Andy Myler’s side on their way to yet another win, and sends them into 3rd in the First Division table.

Cabinteely secured an important point thanks to two late goals from Ben Feeney and Eoin McPhillips against Cork City.

The Leesiders took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Cian Murphy and Alec Byrne.

But Cabo fought back to earn a valuable point, leaving Cork City’s playoff hopes in tatters.



And a late Sean McSweeney header earned Treaty United a point against Wexford at the Market’s Field.

The Slaneysiders looked set for a big win thanks to a Kyle Robinson strike, but they were undone by McSweeney’s late leveller as they continue their playoff push.
