Republic of Ireland international Amber Barrett has signed a new contract with German side FC Köln which will keep her at the club until the end of June 2022.

The Donegal native’s contract extension will see her line out for a third season with the club having moved to Germany from Peamount United in 2019.

Barrett will be playing in the top flight with Köln next season after the side went unbeaten in the second tier this year to win promotion back to the Bundesliga.

The 25 year old had a significant role in this season’s campaign, contributing ten goals throughout the campaign.

“I am delighted to have signed a new deal with FC,” Barrett told the club’s website.

“I have really enjoyed my time here over the past two seasons and was proud to help the club get promoted back to the Bundesliga.

“I have developed a lot as a player and person since I arrived, and I want to keep working hard and scoring goals. My aim and the aim of everyone here is to establish ourselves in the top-flight.”

The striker is currently in Iceland as part of Vera Pauw’s Republic of Ireland squad as preparations continue for two friendlies against Iceland this week.

Ireland will face Iceland on Friday, June, 11 (kick-off 6pm) and Tuesday, June, 15 (kick-off 6pm) with both games being shown on the RTE Player.
