PEAMOUNT UNITED

Peamount will be looking to make it five wins from five this season when they host Athlone Town in the Women’s National League on Saturday (kick-off 6pm).

The current WNL Champions seem unbeatable at the moment with a winning streak that stretches all the way back to last season over the course of over ten games at this point.

It was business as usual for James O’Callaghan’s side last weekend when they traveled to Limerick to face Treaty United.

Despite being held scoreless for the first half, United broke out in the second period with three goals from Sadhbh Doyle, Aine O’Gorman and Eleanor Ryan-Doyle to secure their fourth win of the season.

With just eight goals conceded this season, Athlone may provide a much tougher defence to crack but with Peamount in such strong form currently they are in a great position to continue this winning run even further on Saturday.

ATHLONE TOWN

The Town haven’t been blown away by any team so far this season, although they still find themselves with just two points from their opening four games of the WNL season.

Last weekend, Tommy Hewitt’s side managed to rescue a 2-2 draw against Cork City when the Rebels visited Athlone Town Stadium on Saturday.

Athlone showed great character to come from behind twice with Emma Donohoe leveling things up before half-time after the side conceded a Becky Cassin header in the 2nd minute.

Christina Dring fired the Rebels in front midway through the second half before Melissa O’Kane managed to get onto the end of Donohoe’s free-kick in the 82nd minute to claim a share of the points.

That free-kick may have been won in controversial circumstances but Tommy Hewitt’s team won’t mind as they put some distance between themselves and the bottom of the table.

The Town are still looking for that first win of the season however, and that’s something that they will be hoping to rectify sooner rather than later.

With Peamount in such good form though, they may have to wait a little bit longer for that first three points unless they can pull off something spectacular on Saturday evening.

MATCH STATS

Peamount United are aiming for their 12th WNL win in a row.

The sides have just met once in the WNL. Peas won 8-0 last August on their way to claiming the League Title.

United have not lost a home game since October 2019 when they were beaten 2-1 by Shelbourne.
