Saints sign Rónán Coughlan as he confirms departure from Sligo Rovers

St. Patrick's Athletic have signed striker Rónán Coughlan on Tuesday. The player confirmed his depature earlier in the day from Sligo Rovers for ‘a new challenge’ after two successful years at the Showgrounds.

With Georgie Kelly heading from Richmond Park to Dalymount Park, Coughlan looks set to be the main striker for Stephen O'Donnell's side in 2021.

"We want to challenge at the right end of the table and qualify for Europe," said Coughlan speaking about his ambitions with the Saints.

Coughlan was the Bit o’ Red’s top scorer in 2020, finding the target six times in the league as Liam Buckley’s side secured a fourth-placed finish and European football.

The 24-year-old joined Sligo ahead of the 2019 season following a year with Cork City and scored ten goals in all competitions in his maiden campaign.

Former Huddersfield Town trainee Coughlan previously apent time with Limerick at underage level, before joining Bray Wanderers on his return from England in 2017.

“I want to thank Sligo Rovers for the last 2 years from the gaffer & staff, players and of course the fans who have all been unbelievable to me since day one,” Coughlan said on social media.

“This hasn't been an easy decision to leave at all but I think it's time I move on to a new challenge.”
