FAI Cup holders Dundalk have confirmed the acquisition of KI Klaksvik’s Norwegian striker Ole Erik Midtskogen.

The 25-year-old scored against the Lilywhites in the Europa League Play-Off for KI at the Aviva Stadium.

Dundalk would however win the game by three goals to one at the Aviva – setting up a group stage adventure that saw them face Arsenal, Molde and Rapid Wien.

Midtskogen is Dundalk’s first new recruit of the off-season after it emerged that Sean Hoare left the club yesterday to join Shamrock Rovers.

The Norwegian began his career at his hometown club of Tynset, before moving to Norwegian second-tier outfit HamKam in the summer of 2016.

He spent four years there before moving to the Faroe Islands in January, helping KI to the Super Cup and a place in the UEFA Europa League playoff round.

“Ole’s characteristics as a player will really fit into our style of play and to the League of Ireland,” Dundalk head coach Filippo Giovagnoli told Dundalk’s media team.

“He scored a brilliant goal against us but it’s his all-round style and quality that has really impressed us.

“He is a big, physical player but he is also very technical and has the characteristics and the profile we are looking for. We believe we can help him develop and become a big addition at Dundalk FC.”
