Champions League Round-Up: Giroud strikes late as Chelsea win away to Rennes

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud struck late in second-half injury time to earn Chelsea a pivotal win in their Champions League Group E tie against Rennes.

The result sees the Blues reach the knockout stages of the Champions League for the second year running.

Chelsea took a first-half lead through Callum Hudson-Odoi, but they were pegged back in the 85th minute by Sehrou Guirassy.

However, Giroud was on hand to head home in the dying moments of the game to earn a big win on the road for Frank Lampard’s charges.

Manchester United also scored a big win as they brushed off the challenge of Turks Istanbul Basaksehir by four goals to one at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes scored twice, while Marcus Rashford also scored from the spot to give United a 3-0 lead at the break.

Deniz Turuc scored a consolation for the Turkish side with just over ten minutes to play, but Dan James rounded off the scoring late on in injury time.

Italian giants Juventus had to wait until late on to see off Hungarian champions Ferencvaros at home.

Alvaro Morata netted late to seal the deal for the Old Lady. Elsewhere, Barcelona also won with an easy 4-0 scoreline against Dynamo Kiev.

Brazilian international Neymar netted from the spot as PSG defeated RB Leipzig in Paris, while Borussia Dortmund won 3-0 at home against Club Brugge.



Dundalk’s former Europa League opponents Zenit St Petersburg were defeated 3-1 away to Italian side Lazio.

And in the night’s other game, Sevilla scored late to defeated Russian side FC Krasnodar with Munir El-Haddadi securing a huge three points for the Spaniards.
