Daire O'Connor leaves Cork City with immediate effect

Daire O’Connor has parted company with Cork City, the club’s manager Neale Fenn confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

The attacking midfielder, who was a fan favourite in the Shed End, made eight appearances for the Rebel Army in the 2020 Premier Division season.

The West Cork local signed for City in 2018 after a successful spell at UCD where he won the 2018 League of Ireland First Division and the Collingwood Cup, which he scored a last minute winner in the final.

He also reached the 2018 FAI Cup semi-finals with the Students, which saw them push Dundalk in a 1-0 loss in Oriel Park.

In his two seasons at the club, O’Connor was known for his attacking flare and dynamic runs down the wings. #His first appearance for the Rebel Army came in 1-0 defeat to Dundalk in the 2019 Presidents Cup and his performance that night left a massive impression on the City fans.

The attacking midfielder also featured in the club’s 2019 Europa League campaign. O’Connor’s most memorable moment in a green shirt came against the Lilywhites in October 2019 when he gave City a 1-0 end of season win over the reigning champions.

O’Connor leaves behind a Cork City team at the foot of the Premier Division table and in desperate need of points. The club have won just two games in the 2020 league season, defeating Finn Harps and Sligo Rovers, in their bid to avoid the drop.

City will travel to Dublin on Friday looking for their first away win in over fourteen months. They will face high flying Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Friday evening with a 17:45 kick off.
